Kissimmee has some of the best routes in Florida for motorcycle road trips. You may be unsure of which roads to take or how to prepare for a day-long drive. Here are three of the best motorcycle routes and roads in Kissimmee, Florida, and how to prepare for your upcoming road trip.

Sugarloaf Mountain

At the top of the list is Sugarloaf Mountain, a day-long trip of 100 miles that meanders through Central Florida. There’s plenty of places to take a rest or grab a snack.

The Sugarloaf run begins in Apopka. The ride should be smooth as you make your way to the top on paved roads. There are some sharper turns you’ll need to keep an eye on as you approach the summit.

If you take the north approach to the top of Sugarloaf Mountain, you’ll also have a great selection of eateries and stores along your ride. It’s a lovely tree-lined scenic route but watch for sand and gravel roads, along with a few sharp turns.

The Scenic Highway

If you’re looking for a scenic route to travel, look no further than The Scenic Highway. This aptly named trip spans 200 miles of Central Florida highlands. These country roads are smooth and have beautiful rural views.

Expect to be held up at some point along the way by The Scenic Highway’s agriculture trucks, some slow-moving traffic, and rocky intersections. Be sure to pay close attention to road conditions while you enjoy the view.

Northwest Orlando Hill Country

Another great Kissimmee route is the Northwest Orlando Hill country. This 110-mile long trip will take you all day. The ride takes you around Sugarloaf Mountain with the additional bonus of scenic Lake Dora and Lake Apopka.

Along the way, there will be places for you to stop and eat, get gas, and take in your surroundings. You’ll also encounter the Florida Turnpike tollway, so beware of rush hour traffic.

Motorcycle Safety Before a Road Trip

Before you go out on any of these roads for a day trip, make sure to check your bike out thoroughly. There are several safety checks to consider, such as your oil levels, tires and wheels, and your lights.

Suit Up with High-Quality Gear

Make sure you have invested in high-quality motorcycle safety gear. If you go with inexpensive material, you can’t expect the equipment to protect you in the event of an accident.

Only Pack the Essentials

Don’t forget to get gas before you leave. You want to pack light, but include the essentials, such as:

  • A tire repair kit
  • Rain gear, if applicable
  • A navigational system
  • Motorcycle earplugs
  • A road map
  • A first aid kit
  • Spare cables

Take Your Time and Be Alert

While driving, be sure to ride at your own pace. You must be aware of your surroundings at all times, as you are far more likely to suffer critical injuries if you crash. Motorcycle road trips are amazing but always drive safely to protect yourself and others sharing the roads with you.
