Tampa and the surrounding towns offer many opportunities for excellent motorcycle trips where the scenery and restaurants provide great times on two wheels. But no matter where you ride or where you find yourself on the road less traveled, make sure you take precautions and stay safe.

At Rubenstein Law, we advocate for the Florida motorcycle community. Here are some of our recommendations for a memorable ride on a beautiful day in the Tampa Bay Area.

Motorcycle Rides in the Tampa Area

There are so many rides and routes worth considering. But our favorites are:

  1. Green Swamp Motorcycle Tour
The ride starts and ends in Zephyrhills. There are many twisty sections and miles of back roads and scenery. All roads are paved, and conditions are good to excellent but expect some rough spots on the more rural roads.

The total distance is about 130 miles, almost all of them on backroads. The ride includes the Zephyrhills Airport and Depot Museum and the Green Swamp Wilderness Preserve. From the Tampa area, use the Fletcher Road exit from I-75 and go east on Morris Bridge Road.

  2. Sunshine Skyway
A cruise on un-crowded back roads hides the fact you’re close to one of Florida’s largest population centers. The ride begins at the north end of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, then Exit 5 to US-19 and local roads.

You’ll be on lightly populated two-lane streets as you travel past Terra Ceia bay. You could see pelicans and ospreys as Bishop Harbor Road rolls through wild and undeveloped wetlands with scenic views of Tampa Bay’s backwaters.

  3. Casey Key
South of Tampa, this route starts in Nokomis, off US-41 at Albee Road West or Blackburn Point. This is relatively short ride takes you along the beach with amazing views of charming houses and the scenery of our west coast.

These beach roads aren’t perfect, but they offer unsurpassed views with beach horizons on both sides of the road.

  4. North Tampa Circuit
Another Motorcycle Nerd offering that starts in Land O Lakes. It begins at SR-54 and Collier Parkway, winds through north Tampa county up to Brooksville, south to Dade City and Zephyrhills, then back to Land O Lakes. You can enjoy views of horse and cattle ranches and orange groves.

The roads are generally in good condition, but areas are narrow and bumpy. There are twisties, sweepers, and relaxing, straight cruising roads. Early morning is the best time to start to avoid traffic. The fried chicken at Stef’s Southern Soul Restaurant in Dade City is recommended

  5. Charlotte County
This is south of Tampa and starts in Punta Gorda. The route goes through Boca Grande, a small town with restaurants, small shops, and beaches. The views are beautiful but always keep an eye on the road. There are nice views of Gasparilla Sound, tree-lined streets, and lovely old homes.

The ride is flat until the Boca Grande Island bridge. Stop at South Beach Bar and Grille to have lunch on the beach. The route includes Highway 41, FL-776, FL-771, and the Boca Grande Causeway

Whether you’re enjoying a long tour or riding to work, safety must be a priority. Before you leave, make sure your bike is in proper running condition. Avoid riding in bad weather, make yourself visible to others, and avoid riding in other vehicles’ blind spots and near commercial trucks.
